Prop Hound vs Zillow for rental investors
Zillow is where most homes for sale show up, and its saved searches can alert you the moment a match lists. But its filters are about the house, like price, beds, baths and square footage, not about the return. Prop Hound works on top of the listings: every night it runs the rental numbers on new listings in your markets and only sends you the ones that clear your cash-on-cash, cap rate or DSCR targets, with a link straight to the listing.

When Zillow is the better choice
- You're buying a home to live in.
- You want to browse photos, tour homes and contact listing agents.
- You're happy to run the rental numbers on each listing yourself.
When Prop Hound is the better choice
- You're buying a rental and only care about listings that hit your return.
- Your Zillow alerts send you dozens of homes and you spend evenings running numbers on each.
- You're investing out of state or from Canada and don't know the market well.
- You want to send a deal to your agent with the rental numbers already worked out.
Can you use both?
That's how Prop Hound is meant to be used. It doesn't replace Zillow: each deal we send links you to the listing there. Keep Zillow for photos, tours and contacting agents, and let Prop Hound do the part Zillow doesn't, which is the rental math on new listings.
Let the listings come to you

Questions
- Can Zillow filter by cash flow or cap rate?
- Not for homes for sale. Zillow's search filters cover the property and the price, such as beds, baths, home type, square footage and monthly payment. The rental math is left to you.
- Does Prop Hound use Zillow's listings?
- Prop Hound gets listing data from a property data provider, not from Zillow. For each deal it sends, it links you to a Zillow search for that address so you can see the photos and the listing agent.
- Is Zillow enough for finding rental properties?
- It's enough to find what's for sale. Deciding which of those listings work as rentals means running cash flow, cash-on-cash and cap rate on each one, which is the part Prop Hound automates.
